Installation Recommendations
Good readings start with the installation. Choose a position that represents the room, keep airflow clear and check the network where StayControl will actually be mounted.
Installation topicsThese recommendations cover StayControl. They are not electrical-installation instructions for StayEco or PartyStop.
Continue to the Setup Guide-
Choose a representative mounting position
Use the ceiling height, room layout and monitoring priority to choose the position. The heights below are practical recommendations, not guaranteed coverage or detection limits.
For noise priority, around 1.5 m is the reference. For smoke priority, a slightly higher position, up to approximately 2.0 m, may be appropriate. This is hospitality monitoring guidance, not fire-alarm positioning: StayControl is not a regulated fire alarm.
Recommended mounting height Ceiling height Mounting recommendation Standard ceiling, approximately 2.5 m Approximately 1.5 m above the floor. Higher ceiling, 3 m or more Approximately 1.5–2.0 m, according to the room and monitoring priority. Position within the room Recommendation Why it matters Choose a central, representative area Use the main room or the area with relevant activity. A position should reflect normal room use, not an isolated corner. Avoid corners and enclosed recesses Restricted airflow and obstructions can make the position less representative of the room. Keep clear of furniture, cabinets and curtains Do not hide the device or cover its ventilation openings. Check windows and airflow Allow air to reach the device, but avoid strong drafts. Do not use a window position as a guarantee of smoke detection. Keep away from radiators, stoves and direct sunlight Local heat or direct sun can distort the conditions measured at the device. Avoid continuous nearby noise Televisions, speakers and noisy fans can dominate the local sound level. Review walls, layout and separate rooms Do not assume a single position represents every enclosed room or an entire property. Keep both vented sides clear
StayControl has ventilation slots on two opposite sides. Mount them facing the ceiling and floor; either vented side may face upwards. Keep both openings clear and check access to power before fixing the final position. Airflow schematic only, not a scale drawing. -
Plan continuous power and a clear response
StayControl is mains-powered. Use the supplied power source, a suitable outlet and a safe cable route. Keep the connection secure without trapping the cable or covering the device.
Without power, the device cannot continue powered monitoring. Configure available unplug notifications and decide who checks a missing device. Notification delivery also depends on the relevant connection and settings.
Optional socket protection can reduce unplugging risk, but cannot make tampering impossible. Do not open or modify the casing. Warranty exclusions for misuse, unsuitable power or unauthorized modification do not mean every non-original supply automatically removes all rights.
Read the warranty informationBefore fixing the device
- Check the outlet and power connection are accessible.
- Route the cable without trapping, straining or damaging it.
- Keep the device powered during normal operation.
- Assign responsibility for checking an unplugged or unavailable device.
-
Check Wi-Fi where the device will be mounted
StayControl needs a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. A dual-band router can provide it; a 5 GHz-only network is insufficient. Verify the network name and password before opening the setup portal.
Check a strong, stable signal at the final mounting point, not only beside the router. Power remaining on does not prove that readings are reaching the platform.
- Do not apply arbitrary DHCP lease times or disable WMM/APSD as a general installation step.
- Keep router-specific power-saving or address changes with the network administrator and support.
Connect the device in the Setup GuideIf the connection is unreliable Check Next action Network and credentials Confirm that the intended 2.4 GHz network is available and its credentials are correct. Signal at the mounting point Check coverage and stability in the actual room position. Ask the network administrator to review weak or intermittent coverage. Router and network stability Note when disconnections happen and whether other devices are affected. Have the administrator review network behavior before changing shared settings. DHCP reservation The administrator may consider a reservation using the device MAC address after checking the network requirements. It is not a guaranteed fix for poor signal. Persistent disconnects Contact support with the device reference, affected space, mounting position and observed problem. Never send passwords or guest details. -
Establish a known network-device baseline
StayControl estimates occupancy from router/IP signals corrected by temperature, humidity and noise. It does not identify people or count each person directly.
Keep the space's genuine maximum occupancy separate from its network-device baseline. A permanently connected device is not automatically a person, and should not simply be added to the space capacity.
Understand occupancy monitoringBefore choosing occupancy alerts
- Choose a period when the property is known to be unoccupied or quiet, and note that context.
- List equipment that remains connected, such as TVs, printers, smart locks and consoles.
- Compare the reported estimate with this baseline and with normal property operation.
- Review alert thresholds in that context; do not interpret every connected device as a guest.
- If persistent equipment appears to distort the estimate, ask support how to account for it in the current configuration. Do not assume an ignore or exclusion control exists.

A quick check before you leave
Review the installation against these practical checks.
Do
- Mount at the recommended height for the room and monitoring priority.
- Check strong, stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at the final position.
- Keep both vented sides clear and vertically oriented.
- Keep clear of strong drafts, local heat and continuous nearby noise.
- Leave power connected and check the notification responsibilities.
Don't
- Place the device on the floor or inside a cabinet.
- Hide it behind curtains or furniture, or cover the casing.
- Block the ventilation openings.
- Mount directly beside a strong heat or noise source.
- Choose a position where dust or dirt accumulates quickly.
-
Maintain the device and revisit the installation
A change in the room or network can change the monitoring context. If readings stop or become unexpected, review power, connectivity and local conditions before treating the result as a confirmed incident.
Routine checks
- Wipe the outside of the casing with a dry cloth. Avoid liquids and do not open the device.
- Keep the ventilation openings clear and avoid dirt build-up.
- Keep the supplied power connection secure.
- Follow current platform or support instructions for firmware updates; ask support if you are unsure.
- Recheck mounting, Wi-Fi and notification settings after room, network or operating-rule changes.
- Record the affected device and space before contacting support.
- Follow support instructions before sending a device for inspection.
